If you are ready to compete, here a few tips. First, let everyone know that you want to push yourself to participate. The more people you share this information with, the less likely you will be to go back on your word. Second, buy some new running shoes. Once you have made the financial investment to run, you will again be pushed to stick with your new goal. The next step is to make a plan. Find the running guide that will work best for you. The rough outline listed below is great for the beginner! Write this plan down, track it in the computer or find an online running resource to help you plan ahead and reach your goals. If the first couple weeks of set miles to run worries you, then ignore them and just start running. Once you are comfortable, you will be able to pick right up in a program that will fit your capabilities. Finally, listen to what your body is saying. If you feel you really need to walk, then walk. As you gain strength and endurance, you will be able to run a little farther and a little longer! Remember to take those breaks when you need them. |
