The "Private Orgs"
office is responsible for monitoring all private orgs operating on base. Some well-known POs include: American Red Cross, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, MOSC,
1st Sergeants Association, and PAWS. Interested in joining an existing Private Org? Download the complete current list.
Once approved to operate on base, private orgs can use fundraiser as a way to put money back into their squadrons. They can also help with events in the community, and often assist in the setup and operation of the Air Show, American Day, and Tanabata Festival.

What is a Private Organization?
Private Organizations (POs) are self-sustaining special interest groups set up by people acting exclusively outside the scope of any official capacity they may have in the federal government.
A PO should make a positive contribution in terms of morale or service to installation personnel. These groups may operate on Misawa AB with permission of the Mission Support Group Commander. Oversight authority has been delegated to this squadron by the 35th Fighter Wing Commander.
PO assets are monies and property owned by, or in custody of, a private organization. These are obtained from donations, dues, payments, or other receipts, and may not be misused or combined with NAFI assets.
How are Private Organizations Established?
AFI 34-223, Private Organizations, 15th AW Supplement to AFI 34-223, and the Private Organization Handbook provide operating guidance for Private Organizations (PO). If an organization expects to maintain monthly assets over $1,000 in their account over a 3-month period, they must be formally established as a PO. Those with less than $1,000 in assets can operate as Unofficial Activities. The primary difference in establishing an Unofficial Activity vice a PO is that a PO must have a constitution and has more stringent reporting requirements to protect the interests of the PO and the Air Force.

How are Private Organizations Established? (continued)
A unit or organization must submit the following documents to be recognized as an established PO: Constitution / Bylaws,
Insurance Waiver Request (or proof of commercial insurance and a request to establish a private organization .
In addition, POs are required to submit financial statements quarterly and annually (treasurer's report & balance sheet) along with meeting minutes. Both Private Organizations and Unofficial Activities must report any changes in officers or points of contact. This is done using the Officer Roster. You can download most of the documents your PO will need from the list at right.
