Judging: Selection of winners will be based on originality, creativity and overall quality
The winners will be announced on Wednesday, April 17 for National Haiku Day. Winners’ haiku will be published on 35fss.com.
Entry categories are:
Group 1: Kindergarten–4th Grade
Group 2: 5th–8th Grade
Group 3: 9th–12th Grade
Group 4: 18 years & older
A traditional Japanese haiku consists of three lines with five syllables in the first line, seven syllables in the second line and five syllables in the third line. All haiku created for this contest must follow the traditional syllable count.
- Contest Rules:
Include a cover sheet for each haiku. A maximum of TWO entries will be accepted per person. The cover sheet should include your name, telephone number, box number and group number. Haiku will not be returned.
- Write one poem per haiku sheet.
- The poems must be original and in English.
- FSS gift cards will be awarded to first, second and third place winners in each group. An entrant may win no more than one prize.
- All entries must be received by 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 31.
- Please submit entries at the Library’s Circulation Desk.
