-Yamadera Temple literally means “mountain temple” with 1,143 year history located in the side of the rocky hill along 1,015 stone steps in Yamagata Prefecture. It is designated as a National Historic Site and national Special Place of Beauty.
-Okama (a crater lake) that is a symbol of Zao, with a perimeter of about 1.5 kilometers and water depth of about 25 meters. It is also called “Goshokunuma” (lake of five colors) because the color changes several times a day depending on the angle of the sunlight.
-Akiu Waterfall is a nice 55 meter waterfall. It was called one of Japan’s three most beautiful waterfalls.
